WordPress Amazon S3 Plugin – New version 1.4 released

After 4 long years finally, I released an update for WordPress Amazon S3 Plugin. Thanks to Awad Abdelgayoum for inspiring me to blog again. For nearly couple of years, I haven’t been blogging anything interesting or worth reading.

My blog was almost dying due to lack of new content. So while investigating my S3 plugin had stopped working. I searched for alternative and most of it was very complicated or too much for the blog. So I decided to update the plugin and make it work for the newly updated WordPress.

Release update version 1.4

  • Changed the S3 library to Amazon SDK
  • Major Cleanup
  • Added support for WordPress JS files
  • Added support for fonts in CSS
  • Tested and released for WordPress 4.9.5

WordPress Plugin – Bitly External URLS

I have been blogging for a long time now. In each of my article I normally use a lot of reference websites links. But I really don’t know if anyone is clicking on those links. To analyze the external links and user behavior I need to know whether the user is clicking them. So I wanted a way to get statistics for those external urls from my site. The only short url service which I use gives good statistics is Bitly. I searched for a long time for existing plugin which does this task. I was so unlucky and so far no body had one such requirement like me I guess. Finally I ended up writing one simple plugin which does that job.

Today I am releasing a new WordPress plugin Bitly External URLS which converts your blog post external links to a bitly url. This plugin comes with a very simple options page. All you have to do is

  1. Register of new bitly account
  2. Goto your bitly settings page
  3. Fill in your bitly Username and bitly api key in the plugin options
  4. Block the domain names separated by semicolon for which you don’t want to create bitly short urls
  5. Save the options.

Once the plugin options are configured the plugin is enabled to rock and roll. All the post which has external links will be converted to short url as the post are requested.

Released new Amazon S3 Plugin for wordpress

Couple of months before one of my friend was asking about Amazon S3 plugin for wordpress. For me most of them were either complicated or not working. So my main focus of the plugin was to be really simple and in the same time effective. I would say I have kind of achieved the goal to some extend in version 1.0 of this plugin release.

The toughest part in the plugin is to configure the Amazon S3 Setting, create a folder for caching and setup the wordpress cron file. Once these settings are done you don’t have to worry about anything else. The plugin will look for media files in your post and automatically schedule the files for amazon upload. Once the file is uploaded the media urls will be from the CDN. There are no changes done in your database and if you disable the plugin everything will go back to the old state.
