Dell Inspiron 630m – Fedora Core 6 Installation

Wow..!!! I am stunned after spending a whole day on Fedora core 6 installation on my Dell Inspiron 630m. I download the torrent DVD image and burnt it and started the fun. I have decided this time no Windows and and only Linux. Installation was smooth like silk and it rebooted the system. The system booted up and to my surprise booth display and sound was detected properly which saved a lot of time for me. Thanks to fedora team for doing great job.

Next step I installed some missing software to play video and music files. Please follow this site which gives you in depth to setup all the above in few commands.

Fedora fun..!!!

Fedora core 6 Review

Should I say YUM is kick ass tool in fedora. If you want anything just yum it and it does the job for you. I was not able to configure my wifi. But my card is detected properly. In few days I will figure it out ;-).

Just enable Desktop Effects then comes the real fun. I cannot explain the same please install and experience for yourself.

  1. I have a Compaq Presario V2570NR which also uses the Boradcom AirForceOne WLAN chipset. Like you, my WLAN card seems to be detected properly, but I can’t get it to conect to my access point.

When I try to activate eth1, I get an error message:

“Determining IP information for eth1… failed; no link present. Check cable?”

My gut feeling is that the driver doesn’t properly initialize the WLAN card, but I don’t know how to verify if that’s the case.

I tried using Linuxant’s Driverloader, but that install process fails too.

    Any ideas?

    🙂

  2. Hi

I have intel based wireless card. My issue is it gets detectd in hardware list but the ipw2200 driver is of no use to it. Right now I am managing with ethernet cable. I have some nasty projects in line to complete and didn’t have time to work on this issue.

Next weekend I will be working on getting my wireless issue. In this time if you have any luck with ur card please let me.

Did you manage to install your display drivers. The new gnome desktop effects rocks dude. I love fedora core 6. No more windows I guess on my laptop.

These things I have to set it right.
    Dvd burning
    Wireless
Advanced power management which my laptop supports right now my batt drains pretty fast in 2 hrs and supposed to stand for 3.5 hrs.

Other than this I was able to play ioquake3 with no issues. 🙂
